Gorilla Mike!

Hello everyone! I got the finished version of Gorilla Mike up now. He was a blast to work on and a good experience for me as well. I'm happy to say that he will be appearing on a crossfit shirt soon and my other designs have been used and already printed on shirts as well.
Unfortunately, I had to get rid of the gradients on the design because they wouldn't far well on the printing press. Other than that, the guy looks great!

FINAL DESIGN

Well, I had to do a couple of more revisions to this guy, but so far so good. Check out the Revision and the work on illustrator so far:

ILLUSTRATOR PROGRESSION

Hello again!
There isn't any particular reason why I gave this guy right here the title of Gorilla Mike, I guess it just sounded pretty cool to me at the time. Anyway, here is some samples I've been working on including the final version (still pending) of our Crossfit Brink Gorilla.

I'll hit you guys back up with the color version of Gorilla Mike in a week or so, and with him on the Crossfit T-Shirt as well!

Keeping it moving...

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted lately. I recently just moved and I have been traveling all over the country, from coast to coast (literally haha) looking for work and visiting family. I finally got a chance to visit the west side and let me tell you, it is BEAUTIFUL. I love San Diego especially; it's like eternal sunshine over there, it never rains, haha.

Anyway, I wanted to give an update on what's been going on in the professional front So far, I have been looking for work and I had some freelance on the side and an evaluation for Legend3D for a stereo composite position. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out seeing as the positions were filled. I did learn a new program out of it though, Nuke, a newer composite-node-based program. Fun! Also, I will load up some new work I have been doing for a new gym called Crossfit Brink. That should be up in a week or so.
Check out the site if you're a fitness nut (like me)!

I am currently looking for a position in the following cities: Miami, Orlando, San Diego, L.A., New York, and Chicago. I am definitely looking for either a full time job or a freelance that is going to last me for a few months so if any of you out there here of anything, let me know. I have skills with the following programs: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Flash, Autodesk Maya, and most recently, Nuke. I can Design, Storyboard, Illustrate, Composite, Animate (3D and 2D), Animatics (3D and 2D), and I am willingly to learn more! For more information of me, professionally, please visit my LinkedIn site where you can also download my Resume!

I will continue to work on God of Rock and Goddess of Rock will soon make her debut on the blog. Hang in there with me and I'll have brand new work for everyone to see!

UPDATE TWO: The God of ROCK.

A Man and his Guitar
Our buddy here finally has his guitar! Nice, no? I didn't even really think about the fact that it looks like a 'G' (for Guitar - get it? God I'm a dork). Anyway, I messed around with the Blur tool for the lights, along with some Hard & Soft transparencies to give it a 'glowing' effect. The rest of the guitar was just pretty standard, although I did redo the [his] left hand because I noticed an irregularity which made him look like he had two thumbs. Weird. Anyway, enjoy the piece for now!

Long Hair... I Do Not Care.
I just got done with the hair portion of our favorite deity of a granite-like musical genre. I've been practicing with illustrator all week (even taking on some DAUNTING projects for my portfolio - if done correctly, it will be incredibly worth it) and I'm finally getting some results that are to my liking! I fixed a few things with the line work and I started messing more with the blur tools. This guy should be a very worth addition to my portfolio. Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted on this, more portfolio entries, and hopefully a new demo reel by the end of the year (fingers are a-crossed).

If you haven't visited my portfolio site, well, you should. Just click on the link below!

This right here is currently a work in progress; trying to figure out how best to use illustrator. For now, outlining on illustrator proves to way easier than Photoshop and in some insane cases, more fun! The mind the gradient color too much on this guy, for now. I'm sure I'll update this as soon as I get the time to complete, along with a bunch of other side projects I'm doing.

Practice Practice Practice

Hello again guys! Had some more practice with illustrator today. I worked on a couple of different piece that were illustrated by a good friend from out of town. The vampire bit was fun to do and I added a couple of things from the original designs, but not much. The squirrel was more of a challenge because I tried to give it a design that was as clean as possible. It came out IIIIGHT, but I could do better. Overall, it was great practice, but I still need a little more polish. Enjoy the pieces for now!

Gold Guns Girls

Ok, so a bit of a confession to make: I've been listening to a LOT of Metric lately (if you don't know who they are, check them out on YouTube) and their 'Gold, Guns, & Girls' song is the inspiration behind this. I've been terribly inspired by their sound lately, which is great considering that I've needed a new muse and I'm drawing more outside my limit than usual. This is definitely more design-like than my other attempts. Here, I'm showing you the difference in the techniques I use for Illustrator (Above) and Photoshop (Below).

Personally, I prefer the illustrator version.

Of course, there is also more room for perfection on the above illustration. I'll post it up as soon as finish it which will probably be around the same time I finish the God of ROCK piece.

Special Effects Demo!

Another example of animation work, combining Tracking, Animation, and Special Effects. Using Autodesk Maya and Adobe After Effects, I was able to create this 10 minute demo. The tracking abilities with maya are actually pretty cool and not to complicated to use. Besides the crater there, the modeling used for this shot (Rocket and Smoke Effects) were NOT created by me.

The Puppeteer...

This is some example of Animation work I had done in my time at Art Institute. Originally, I had just story boarded the idea, but eventually I turned it into a class project. Check it out!

Messing around a little bit more with Photoshop to craft a new logo for my favorite beer! Franziskaner... definitely got the right feel of it, but it needs more tweaking. Overall, not a bad design but, ultimately, I believe that I'll have to continue in Illustrator to get the results I am looking for.

The BEAST.

Remember the drawing I did of the indigenous boy named Atef? Well, he had an enemy to kill... and that enemy was this guy. Having to add an animal element to my pieces really help spring out something new to me. I need to draw more out of my character element and get more acquainted with a different variety of creatures, real, mythical, or otherwise.

CBC

So this is a little number that I drew for an old friend who is a Capricorn and has a Chinese zodiac of the Rabbit. Needless to say, I decided to mix both in a pinup style to some sexy results. It is a good sketch that I'm hoping to redo as a better character design.

Demo Reel Número Uno

My first cut for my demo reel, graduating from Art Institute. Many a things will be changed here. Stay tuned.

Atef

Drew up this little guy for a group project. Got a tad bit lazy with the background, as I was planning to give it a more realistic touch. Ah, blue will have to do for now.

Anyway, I'm on track to finally learning more Flash. I have a test to complete that will, hopefully, land me my first intern gig. It looked daunting at first, but after learning a couple of things, that changed completely.

Also, finished up the camera moves for one of my animatics today. i plan on doing much more tomorrow to have my demo ready in time for Wednesday. After that, it's all up hill. I get to brush up on my work and embellish the animatics and concepts while perfecting my Flash skills.

Atrocitus

Red Lantern Atrocitus

Now this is one of my favorite comic book characters in the DCU. To me, he is Venom done right (look and character wise). This is probably going to be one of the characters I will take to illustrator later this year, so be on the lookout for him!

Luka... the evil cowboy 'bot

LUKA
This is a character born out of a concept idea a friend gave me during a demo reel class. Needless to say, he came out exactly how I envisioned him and my friend loved it. Hoping someone brings this to 3D one day. Unless I step up my Modeling game and do it myself, which may not be such a bad idea in the long run.
